Kandla is a seaport in Kutch near the city of Gandhidham. Located in the Gulf of Kutch, it is one of the Central Government-controlled ports on the west coast of India. Kandla was constructed in the 1950s as the chief seaport serving Western India, after the partition of India from Pakistan left the port of Karachi in Pakistan. The port has a distinction of being at the topmost position in cargo traffic among all major ports of India since many years.
