Porbandar is a coastal city in the Indian state of Gujarat, best known for being the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi and Sudama. The city was a prosperous trading center for centuries, conducting significant commerce with Arabian and Persian Gulf countries, as well as East Africa under the Mughals, the Marathas and the British. Now the city offers a sound base for industrial development, with cement and chemical factories contributing majorly to the industrialization process in the region.
